Velociraptor was a medium-sized dromaeosaurid from the Late Cretaceous of Mongolia. Growing up to 2 meters (6 feet) and probably weighing about as much as a coyote, Velociraptor was not the oversized predator seen in the Jurassic Park movie franchise. Velociraptor had typical dromaeosaur characteristics, like a sickle-shaped killing claw on the second toe of each foot, and a long, stiffened tail. One specimen also preserved quill knobs on the forelimb, confirming that, like other dromaeosaurs, Velociraptor wasn’t just feathered, but had (non-flying) wings in life.
