Protoceratops was a small ceratopsian from the Late Cretaceous of Mongolia, about 75 million years ago. Growing to around 2 meters (6 feet) in length and roughly sheep-sized in mass, these early relatives of later horned dinosaurs had well-developed crests, but small horns that were little more than raised rugosities over the eyes, or a gentle point over the nose. Protoceratops is known from abundant specimens, including nests and eggs.
