A hadrosaur of the Late Cretaceous of North America, distinguished by a flat, solid, paddle-shaped bony crest over the top of the skull. Brachylophosaurus is known from remarkably well-preserved specimens, including a “mummified” (note: just skin impressions, not a real mummy!) specimen known as Leonardo. From Leonardo we know that a midline row of keratin scutes with a sort of picket-fence look ran down the top of the animal, spaced at approximately one per vertebral spine. Pollen and plant fossils from the interior show it ate plants from solid ground - no swamp-dwelling here.
