Majungasaurus was an abelisaurid, a short-armed predatory theropod, from the Late Cretaceous of Madagascar. Due to the fragmentary nature of the first specimens reported over a century ago, there was some confusion about the name, but thanks to amazing specimens described in 2007 (and more since!), Majungasaurus is now one of the best-studied abelisaurs. It had a deep, blunt skull bearing a single small horn on its forehead, the short arms typical of abelisaurs, and was surprisingly short-legged. Bite marks found on some of its own bones appear to have been made by other individuals of Majungasaurus, showing evidence of direct cannibalism, although it should be noted that in times of food scarcity almost all predators will scavenge the remains of their own.
