Eosinopteryx was a tiny, potentially subadult, anchiornithid theropod from the Late Jurassic of northeastern China. Its small wings and apparent absence of vaned feathers on the tail or feet suggest a higher degree of variation in feather-patterns existed within anchiornithids. Eosinopteryx is currently only known from the exceptionally complete type specimen, YFGP-T5197, so it’s difficult to know whether some features, like the very short snout, were due to being young or characteristic of the species. It’s likewise difficult to know whether the 32 cm (1 foot) length was close to the final size, or whether it would have grown significantly. More fossils would most certainly help!
