A small, feathered paravian theropod from the Late Jurassic of Liaoning, China, probably a close relative of Anchiornis. Roughly crow-sized, Aurornis had wings but they were too small, lacked sufficient range and were not powerfully enough muscled for flight. As such, the position of Aurornis and other anchiornithids figures prominently in debates over the earliest stages of wing evolution.
