Plateosaurus is a fairly large (6 m / 20 foot long) bipedal sauropodomorph from the Late Triassic of Europe. It is known from numerous skeletons, many of them remarkably complete, documenting the classic “prosauropod-grade” features of a long-necked, big-stomached, two-legged bipedal plant-eater.
The specimen these reconstructions are based on (GPIT/RE/7288) has the honor of being one of the first complete dinosaur skeletons to be scanned digitally and then exhaustively compared to various museum mounts and illustrated skeletal reconstructions (in Mallison, 2010). Happily, these images compared favorably to the 3d version.
