A large frog from the Late Cretaceous of Madagascar, it was nicknamed the “devil frog” and is related to living South American horned frogs. Beelzebufo had a broad, heavily ossified skull — its trivial name means “shield” — and its mouth had a wide gape suited to being an ambush predator.
