Torvosaurus was a large megalosauroid theropod from the Late Jurassic of North America and Portugal, reaching up to 10 meters (32 feet) in length. The species found in Portugal is Torvosaurus gurneyi, named after artist James Gurney, the famed creator of Dinotopia. While only fragmentary remains are so far known of T. gurneyi, it was one of the largest predators of the Late Jurassic European ecosystem, had blade-like teeth and powerful forelimbs.
