Daspletosaurus torosus is a tyrannosaurid theropod from the Late Cretaceous of Alberta, Canada. Both phylogenetically and in terms of being a large, robustly built apex predator it’s very close to Tyrannosaurus. It lived alongside smaller, more lightly built albertosaurine tyrannosaurs, who presumably fed on smaller or faster prey, while the deep skull and powerful jaws allowed the more robust Daspletosaurus to feed on larger animals in their environment (and no doubt to bully the occasional albertosaurine off of a kill).
