Camarasaurus was the most common Morrison Formation sauropod. All species of Camarasaurus share a similar set of characteristics, with a robust, relatively short neck sloping upwards from the tall shoulders, leading to a boxy skull packed full of spoon-shaped teeth. As a macronarian sauropod, the closest relative in the Morrison Formation would have been the much taller Brachiosaurus.
Camarasaurus lewisi is only known from a single specimen, and there is some debate about whether it should be subsumed into another species of Camarasaurus. Hopefully time (and more fossils) will clarify the relationships of the many specimens (and several species) of Camarasaurus.
