Living in the seas of the Early Jurassic, and measuring in at 7 m (22 feet) long made Rhomaleosaurus one of the first large plesiosaurs. Rhomaleosaurus belonged to a subgroup of plesiosaurs called pliosaurs - short-necked big-headed predators that hunted large fish and other marine reptiles. The type specimen, NMING F8785, is a nearly complete individual, and forms the basis of this reconstruction.
